I’m sure that you’ve often heard someone say, “Careful, you don’t want bad karma.” It’s a word that gets tossed around like crazy in the spiritual communities, social circles and even over dinner. Yet many have a complete misconception of the word’s true meaning.
What is karma really? Many believe it means that every action we take evokes some sort of cosmic repercussion or payback—if you do something for someone, you will get something back in return, good or bad, depending on the intention behind your action. Wrong! First off, karma is neither bad nor good—it has no personality or energy, and it’s completely shapeless.
In truth, karma waits for us to bring it back to its truthful form—love. Think of it like this: when you send anger out into the world, it cycles through the universe to other people and situations and then back to you. It does so because anger is an energy based in sadness and fear. How does this affect you? It comes back to you through a situation, friend or loved one until you return it to its purest form—love. Karma is not a matter of good or bad—it’s a matter of transformation. It’s a doorway of possibility for change and growth, a chance to bring correct thinking and love to your life.
Most people don’t realize how important it is to move forward spiritually. Karma is a buddy that keeps coming back to you so that you can reach new and exciting levels of truth and transformation. It’s not all roses—sometimes karma can kick you in the ass really hard, to the point where you can’t sit down for awhile. Why so mean? It’s not mean at all, it just takes a lot to get past a thick wall, i.e. a huge ego, and breaking through all the self-created barriers can be very uncomfortable, even life threatening for some. It’s a matter of perspective—you can see karma as the big, bad and ugly, and run from it forever. No matter what, it will catch you. Run, Forrest, run!
Karma catches you because it has to. You created it. Everything in the universe wants to be brought back to love at some point—that’s the ultimate journey. As humans, we are always trying to improve our way of life. So what if I told you that life is hard because the spiritual element is missing? I’m not talking religion or dogma, I’m talking about our need for self-actualization and self-awareness.
You won’t always be able to move through life easily with all the tumultuous happenings on the planet. Intellect is not enough—you need to use all the faculties Source provides you. That’s why tools are absolutely necessary. People come into our lives to help us learn more about who we are and to play out our karma.
There is a way to avoid karma, but it’s not hiding in a cave all alone like a monk or hermit. You can do charity work, practice meditation and ask Source to reveal lessons to you through others, as they are your karmic reflection at best. Every person that gets under your skin is your energy coming home to be corrected. Sounds like school? Newsflash: it is!
Earth is a school that helps us all evolve as creators. What grade are you in? Just kidding—no one’s keeping score. It’s up to you if you choose to grow or not. Stop reacting to your reflections and notice what emotions and thoughts they bring up for you. Chances are you will need to confront your ego, which always wants to be right, and choose to be love. Then you’ll be on your way to a karma-free life, with more time to do the things that make you happy. Keep going, the journey only takes one step at a time.
